OVERCOMING YOUR GIANT

Posted on 31 Jul 2015, Pastor: Lemmy Gbenga Ayodele

Text: 1 Samuel 17:45-51

A problem or a challenge is a platform upon which God desires to show how wonderful He can provide. Most of the miracles our Lord performed was a result of problem or challenge. Jesus fed the 5000 because people were hungry. He healed the who can’t walk for 38 years because he was lame. He turned water to wine because there was no more wine. John 2. Everyday, we come across situation seems impossible to overcome. This situation is called Goliath or Giant according to this passage. In all things, we always have two approaches or redness to the Giants of our lives.

  1. Response to panic – fear.
  2. Response to calm down and look up to God just like David did. Here Goliath represents fear, hinderance, obstacle, reproach, torment or sickness. The followings are some of the

PRINCIPLES to overcome Giant.

  1. David did not see the problem as a problem. What do you see? What you see is a great determinant of the consequences, Saul and the people saw a giant, but David did not see what they saw, he could only see a dog ready to be killed. Genesis 13:15, Isaiah 43:18-19. People do see how big and powerful the problem is, and they become under the control of the problem. God wants you to control or challenge the challenge with Him. Just need to look at it as David did.
  2. David faced the challenge. So do not run away from it and back the problem. Running away from the problem is a race you can never win, running away from the problem only increases the distance from the solution. God can do all things. Job 42:2, Matthew 19:26.
  3. Davis puts his trust in the Lord is God. Daniel 11:32
He said that the Lord who delivered me from the paw of the Lion will deliver me from the hands of the Philistine Zechariah 4:6, Proverbs 3:5, not to depend on your own ability Jeremiah 17:7
  4. David allowed God to fight the battle for him and with him. He said the battle is the Lord and she will give into my hands. 2 Chronicles 20:15.
    5. David used the name of the Lord. There is a great power and authority in the name of the Lord. The name of Jesus is far above all other name, at the mention of the name of Jesus every knee shall bow….Proverbs 18:10.In conclusion, in your crisis, let God handles it through you, do not tell him how to fight the battle for you because He knows what to do. The bible tells us that David had 5 smooth stones to fight, you can be saying that if indeed is a man of faith why not ONE stone instead of 5? A school of thought says it’s because Goliath did have 4 other brothers in case they showed up. Another school says 5 stones represent the 5 letters of JESUS.

PRAYER POINTS

  1. Goliath brought fear into the life of the people, come against every spirit of fear.
  2. Father, deliver me from the hands of every giant confronting me iJN.
  3. Father, as you made David to prevail over Goliath, help me to prevail over every Goliath of my life.
  4. As David ran and stood over Goliath, father lift me up over every enemy of my life IJN.
  5. David fulfilled his heart desire over Goliath, father, help me to fulfill my heart desires over the giants of my life.
