CALMING THE STORM

Posted on 31 Jul 2015, Pastor: Lemmy Gbenga Ayodele

Text: Mark 4:35-41, Matthew 8:23-27
What is a Storm? Storm is a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning or snow. It is a tumultuous reaction; an uproar or controversy. It is commotion, trouble, brouhaha, hue, upheaval and disturbance. To calm means not disturbed, completely motionless, tranquility or serenity. This means that whenever you want to take any major decision in life there must be a challenge or problem and we should allow Jesus to take control. This passage tells us about our position as Christians. We are not really sure of the person inside of us, we still fear despite the fact that we claim to have Jesus in us. When Jesus gave order to go to the other side Matthew 8:18, He knew the storm was coming John 2:25. The Lord never promised we will never see storm in life ( as a matter of fact, He has told us to expect trouble, John 16:33. Rather, He has promised to be with us in the storm. He will never leave his children alone in the midst of trouble, with perseverance, they will overcome Deuteronomy 31:8, James 1:12. Being a Christian does not exempt us from storm of life. The fact that we are Christians do not insulate us from going through difficulties.

REASONS FOR STORM

  1. Bad decision leads to storm of life. It is easy to make a bad decision. Proverbs 16:25.
    2. You are in storm with His presence. Mark 4:38 Jesus was not afraid or surprised. In fact, He was asleep, God does not panic Psalm 23:4
  2. You are in storm for God’s purpose in order to do a work in us.

CAUSES OF STORM?

  1. God is aware of the storm and allows it. God knew before you were born that you would go through this season in life. Mark 4:35. The trip was Jesus idea, He knew a storm would come. The disciples were not out of the will of God. Not all storms are not in the will of God, at time when we find ourselves in a storm of life we question whether we are in the will of God. Job 6-8.
  2. The storm could be from the enemy. Satan always wants to hinder you and I or destroy us John 10:10

WAY OUT?

  1. Determine to cross to the other side, don’t loose focus or be distracted Philippians 3:15-
  2. Do not Worry. We call ourselves Christians and still we are worried, anxious over everything Philippians 4:6-7, Matthew 6:25-34
  3. Do not Fear. Mark 4:40 You are a Christain still afraid. When you have Jesus inside of you, you do not need to fear. We should stop glorifying the devil. Isaiah 41:10
  4. We must have faith. Mark 4:40, Mark 11:22-23
  5. Always recognise Jesus Mark 4:41

PRAYER POINTS.

  1. Thank God for being with you in every storm of your life.
  2. Father, give me the grace to overcome the storm of my life IJN.
  3. Father, I will not die in the midst of the storm.
  4. Father, increase my faith in you so that I will not fail you in life.
